Information about the drug

Spiroton (Spironolactone) is an effective potassium-sparing diuretic. The medical use of this drug consists in the treatment of a number of diseases associated with the insufficient functioning of the kidneys and liver, for lowering the pressure in the circulatory system, for edema of different degrees, for heart failure.

Spironolactone is an antagonist of the receptor of the hormone Aldosterone. This hormone (Aldosterone) is produced by the adrenal cortex and it is the main mineralocorticosteroid hormone of the adrenal cortex in humans. In some animal species, the main natural mineralocorticoid is deoxycorticosterone, not aldosterone, but for humans, deoxycorticosterone is relatively inactive.
