Finasteride 5 mg 30 tabs Apotex Generic
Information about the drug
Finasteride is an inhibitor of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme interacts with the male sex hormone and promotes the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone.
Dihydrotestosterone is a biologically active form of testosterone formed from it in target organs. Dihydrotestosterone is much more strongly bound to androgenic tissue receptors than the parent compound (testosterone). Dihydrotestosterone performs the following functions: stimulation of sebum secretion of the skin sebaceous glands, stimulation of proliferation of prostate cells, stimulation or inhibition of hair growth on certain parts of the body, stimulates the growth of the genitals in men during puberty. Also, it affects the erectile function in men. There are studies, in which shown, that Dihydrotestosterone negatively affects recovery after heavy physical exertion.
For medical purposes it is used to treat hypertrophy (enlargement) of the prostate gland; it also effectively prevents on androgenic side effects that occur as a result of increased production of DHT.
Finasteride has no effect on the production of other hormones in the organism, it only prevents symptoms.
This drug prevents the following effects that occur when an excessively large amount of DHT in the body: Hair loss on the head, excessive hair growth on the body and face, an enlarged prostate. Also, excessive accumulation of dihydrotestosterone can cause accumulation of fat in the skin and, as a result, cause acne.
With such disorders, athletes who use large doses of Anabolic Steroids (AS) are often found. This product has proven itself not only for medical purposes, but also as an effective prophylactic drug. Finasteride is one of the most recently used drugs during a post course therapy.
Before applying you should notice, that in patients with a large volume of residual urine and / or a sharply reduced urine flow, careful monitoring of the possible development of obstructive uropathy is necessary. Before starting treatment, it is necessary to exclude diseases that simulate benign prostatic hyperplasia, such as prostate cancer, urethral stricture, bladder hypotension, impaired innervation and infectious prostatitis. Women of childbearing age and pregnant women should avoid contact with the drug because it has teratogenic properties (the ability to inhibit the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone can cause impaired development of the genital organs in the male fetus).
The drug is used to prevent unwanted symptoms from elevated level of DHT. This is extremely relevant for those athletes, who use t3estosterone for gaining muscles mass. In cases of prevention and treatment, the dosage and time of applying can vary. On average, the dosage of 5 mg daily is used for prophylaxis, throughout the entire course of steroid using, which include pure testosterone or its metabolite dihydrotestosterone.
For the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, the drug is also used daily, but the intake period lasts up to six months.
For more effective applying you should regularly pass analyses to correct the dosage.
This drug was created for male athletes and can’t be effective for female sportsmen.
This drug can be applied as in the morning as in the evening and during the applying of meals.
Side effects from finasteride are rare. Compared to placebo, men taking finasteride are at a group with increased risk of impotence, erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, and impaired ejaculation during the first year of the treatment. The rate of these effects becomes indistinguishable from placebo after 2-4 years, and these side effects usually subside over time. The FDA has added a 5-alpha reductase warning regarding the increased risk of developing high-grade prostate cancer, as BPH treatment lowers the level of PSA (prostate-specific antigen) that could mask the development of prostate cancer. Although the overall incidence of breast cancer in men in clinical trials for finasteride has not been increased to 5 mg, there is a post-marketing report of breast cancer in connection with its use. Available data do not provide clarity as to whether there is a causal relationship between finasteride and these cancers.
In 2015, a meta-analysis found that none of the clinical trials for testing finasteride in hair loss provides adequate reporting and safety. That leads to the lack of information to establish a safety profile for finasteride as a treatment for hair loss. The study concluded that existing clinical trials of finasteride for hair loss provide very limited information on toxicity, poor quality. This interfere to identify what side effects is systematically presented.
Whether finasteride causes long-term sexual dysfunction in some men after drug treatment is discontinued remains unclear. There are reports of cases of a permanent decrease in libido or erectile function after stopping the drug. The FDA updated the label to inform people about these reports. In 2010, a review showed evidence that finasteride increased the risk of sexual dysfunction, and that people where interrupting its administration because of sexual side effects.
When finasteride was originally approved to treat hair loss in 1997, the FDA reported that it was well tolerated, and the most common side effects where related to sexual function. For many people, these side effects can be eliminated if treatment is stopped, and sometimes even if treatment is ongoing.
