Information about the drug

Finasteride is an inhibitor of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme interacts with the male sex hormone and promotes the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone.

Dihydrotestosterone is a biologically active form of testosterone formed from it in target organs. Dihydrotestosterone is much more strongly bound to androgenic tissue receptors than the parent compound (testosterone). Dihydrotestosterone performs the following functions: stimulation of sebum secretion of the skin sebaceous glands, stimulation of proliferation of prostate cells, stimulation or inhibition of hair growth on certain parts of the body, stimulates the growth of the genitals in men during puberty. Applying

Side effects

Side effects from finasteride are rare. Compared to placebo, men taking finasteride are at a group with increased risk of impotence, erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, and impaired ejaculation during the first year of the treatment.
